Woodbury is another good example of
Twin Cities' suburban explosion. Only a small town of 3000 about 20
years ago, the city now is home to over 45,000 and has 40
developments with more in the planning stages. This is a 36 square
mile area, half of it still undeveloped. It is located in Washington
County.
St. Paul is only 20 minutes away
from Woodbury, as is the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
The landscape includes lakes, forests and rolling hills. There are
also two popular shopping areas: the Horizon Outlet Center right on
Highway 94 headed east to Wisconsin and the Woodbury Village.
Average home prices are around
$185,000 and median household income approaches $50,000 plus. Town
homes at about $70,000 are also available, as are ramblers of 1950
and 1960 vintage for around $80,000. Very expensive homes in the
million dollar range are also on the market -- for example, in the
Prestwick Golf Course Community.
Recreational areas include: more
than 20 city parks, six small lakes, a long biking-jogging path and
two golf courses and another on the drawing boards.
